License Exam Passing Criteria

  • Likhit Exam (लिखित): 20 questions total (5 marks each). Minimum 60 marks (12 correct) required to pass.
  • Trial Exam (ट्रायल): 100 marks total in 7-shape, traffic light, ramp, and narrow plank. Minimum 70 marks required to pass.

About Nepal Driving License

The Nepal driving license is issued by the Department of Transport Management (DOTM) under the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport. To obtain a license, applicants must pass both a written exam (Likhit परीक्षा) and a practical driving test (Trial परीक्षा). The license is valid for 5 years and can be renewed online through the DOTM portal.

Step-by-Step License Application Process

  1. Online Application: Visit applydl.dotm.gov.np and create an account. Fill out the application form with personal details and upload required documents.
  2. Pay Application Fee: Pay the prescribed fee (Rs. 1,500 for new license) through online banking or eSewa/Khalti.
  3. Likhit Exam (Written Test): Appear for the written exam at your chosen DOTM office. 20 multiple-choice questions - need 12 correct answers to pass.
  4. Trial Exam (Practical Test): After passing written test, schedule and appear for practical driving test. Includes 7-shape, traffic light stop, ramp climb, and narrow plank.
  5. Receive License: Upon passing both exams, your Smart Driving License card will be printed and issued within 7-15 working days.

  • Passport-size photos (2 copies) - white background, formal attire
  • Blood group certificate from recognized health institution
  • Eye test report (vision certificate) from registered optical center
