Extending a visa, arriving on one, and the NRN visa — what the department handles, where each is done, and which parts cannot be finished online.
अध्यागमन विभागले पर्यटक भिसाको म्याद थप, आगमन भिसा, भिसा परिवर्तन र गैर आवासीय नेपाली (एनआरएन) भिसा हेर्छ। म्याद थपको आवेदन विभागकै अनलाइन पोर्टलबाट दिन सकिन्छ, तर भिसाको म्याद सकिनुअघि काठमाडौंको विभाग वा पोखराको अध्यागमन कार्यालयमा आफैं उपस्थित हुनैपर्छ — अनलाइनले मात्र म्याद थपिँदैन। एक भिसा वर्षमा बढीमा १५० दिन बस्न पाइन्छ, र यो गणना सबै प्रवेश जोडेर हुन्छ। मान्य एनआरएन कार्ड भएकालाई एनआरएन भिसा निःशुल्क छ।
A tourist visa can be extended to a total of 150 days within one visa year. That total is cumulative — leaving the country and coming back does not reset it, and neither does a fresh visa on arrival. Plan around the total rather than around each extension.

Apply on the department's online portal first and print the submission, then attend in person before your current visa expires. The online step does not replace the visit; it shortens it.

Most nationalities can be issued a tourist visa on arrival. Filling the arrival form online beforehand and bringing the printout is what saves the queue.

Moving between visa categories, or transferring a valid visa into a new passport, is handled by the department rather than at a border.

For Non-Resident Nepalis holding a valid NRN card. Extended for up to one year at a time, and issued without charge while the NRN card remains valid.
The department’s published tourist-extension figure is USD 45 for a minimum of fifteen days, then USD 3 for each additional day.

Every immigration service here starts online and finishes in a room. The portal takes your details and gives you a printout; the extension, the biometrics and the stamp happen at the department in Kathmandu or the Immigration Office in Pokhara. Submitting the form is not the same as being extended, and a visa that expires while an online application sits unattended has still expired.
Go before the expiry date, not on it.
