About Income Tax in Nepal
Income tax in Nepal is governed by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) and follows a progressive tax slab system. Your tax liability depends on your annual income, marital status, and eligible deductions. Nepal's fiscal year runs from Shrawan 1 to Ashadh 31 (mid-July to mid-July), and all salaried individuals must file annual tax returns.

Nepal uses different tax slabs for single and married taxpayers. The government updated these rates to provide relief to middle-income earners:

Tax Deductions Explained
- SSF & CIT Contributions (Max Rs. 5,00,000) - Social Security Fund (11% of salary) and Citizen Investment Trust contributions are tax-deductible up to the lesser of 1/3 of your salary or Rs. 5 lakhs. SSF contributors are also exempt from the 1% tax on the first slab.
- Life Insurance Premium (Max Rs. 40,000) - Premiums paid for life insurance policies are deductible up to Rs. 40,000 annually. This includes both personal and family life insurance coverage.
- Medical Insurance Premium (Max Rs. 20,000) - Health and medical insurance premiums qualify for up to Rs. 20,000 annual deduction, helping offset healthcare costs.
