Japan Student Visa Application Process
1
Japanese Language Proficiency (N5/N4)
Pass NAT-TEST / JLPT N5 or N4 level exam or complete minimum 150 hours of Japanese language study in Nepal.

School Selection & Interview
Pass interview with Japanese Language School or University; receive Acceptance Letter (Nyuugaku Kyokasho).

COE (Certificate of Eligibility) Application
Submit financial supporter documents to Japanese Immigration via school. COE processing takes 2-3 months.

Visa Stamping at VFS Kathmandu
Submit original COE, Passport, and NOC (No Objection Certificate) from MoEST Nepal at VFS Global Kathmandu.

Arrival in Japan & Zairyu Card
Receive Residence Card (Zairyu Card) + Shikakugai Katsuodou Permit (28 hours/week work permit) at Narita/Haneda airport.
FINANCIAL SUPPORTER REQUIREMENTS
Bank Balance & Income Proof
- Bank Balance: NPR 25 Lakhs – 30 Lakhs (held for at least 3-6 months).
- Annual Income Certificate: NPR 10 Lakhs – 15 Lakhs per year (Tax clearance certificate required).
- Relationship Certificate: Issued by Ward Office proving relation to supporter (Parents/Siblings).
Work Rules in Japan (アルバイト Arubaito)
- Normal School Term: Max 28 hours per week.
- Long Vacations (Summer/Winter): Up to 40 hours per week.
- Minimum Wage: ¥1,000 – ¥1,200 / hour depending on prefecture (Tokyo/Kanagawa highest).
